Requirements:

• Dual monitors are recommended – follow the videos on one and do the course work on the other. Alternatively, use a second computer.

• Internet Connection.

• 12d Model 15 (a 12d Model 15 Cloud licence will be provided free of charge for six months. Egress to Port 22350 is required to access the 12d Model 15 Cloud licence).

This course is designed for anyone looking to acquire new skills or maintain their proficiency. Attending a one-off training session every now and then isn’t enough. Prerequisites:
Completion of the Fundamentals course is required. You do not need to apply for it separately. It is included as part of this course. If you’ve already completed the Fundamentals prerequisite in a previous course, you can skip it.

Drawing on over four decades of experience, Robert guides participants through advanced hydraulic and hydrologic modelling techniques tailored to urban stormwater environments.

This course is ideal for engineers, designers, and modellers seeking to strengthen their practical skills in unsteady flow analysis, model integration, and data interpretation within a 2D framework.

Course Overview

Across a structured series of detailed lessons, you’ll develop the expertise to:

  • Run and review 2D stormwater analyses, including interpreting flood extent, depth, and velocity animations.
  • Diagnose model errors and troubleshoot hydraulic connectivity, including snapping issues and overlapping geometry.
  • Create and analyse time-based result graphs, hydrographs, and rainfall input using Hydro files.
  • Refine boundary conditions and estimate tailwater effects for more reliable hydrologic models.
  • Understand the use of ridge lines and material areas in Quick 2D setup to improve model  quality.
  • Link 1D culverts into 2D models, perform water level checks, and troubleshoot flow behaviours.
  • Link catchments and manage bypass nodes  with 1D hydrological methods to reflect urban catchment behaviour.
  • Build and refine 1D/2D stormwater networks, addressing inlets, basin routing, tailwater, and flow directionality.
  • Create inlet capture strings and define urban ridge lines, enabling more accurate inlet mapping and flow path assignment.
  • Manage model data efficiently, including model clean-up and TIN removal to optimise project performance.

By the end of this course, you’ll be proficient in setting up, managing, and analysing comprehensive 1D/2D urban stormwater models.
