- Optional Prep: Completing the Civil Design Basics V15 course will give you a great head start.
- Transferable Skills: No programming experience is required! If you have experience with basic Excel functions (like "IF" statements) or any prior programming, you’ll find the logic incredibly intuitive.
12d Model Licence and Loan Agreement
Course outline: This course introduces the power of snippets in 12d, demonstrating how they dramatically improve design efficiency compared to traditional methods. You will learn to simplify complex workflows by consolidating multiple MTF modifiers into a single, reusable command—drastically reducing template length while ensuring project consistency.
You will:
· Master the process of building and applying snippets directly within MTF files, including best practices for adding comments to ensure logic clarity for all users.
· Use built-in automatic parameters to control behaviour dynamically, such as side-selection-based naming and the automatic retrieval of values (like the active TIN) from the Apply MTF Function.
· Learn to create user-defined parameters for localised adjustments, such as varying the road width without altering the core snippet logic.
· Explore different command types, parameter display, and flow control features to build more flexible and powerful snippets.
Course Overview: This course provides a technical foundation in snippet development. You will explore a variety of core concepts, including optional parameters, directives, and defining tokens, as well as applying arithmetic, and using repeat and increment options for complex tasks like earthworks benching. You will also master advanced design applications, such as nesting snippets and applying longitudinal logic for parking bay widening and crossfall adjustments.
Further topics covered in the course include:
• Defining variables to capture values for length, width, and crossfall
• Applying attributes to generated elements within snippets
• Encrypting snippets to protect intellectual property
• Professional debugging techniques for troubleshooting and a practical exercise to fix a broken snippet
• Guidance on where to find support and additional learning resources for working with snippets in 12d.
By the end of this course, you will understand how snippets can streamline design workflows, reduce template complexity, and create reusable, parameter-driven solutions applicable across multiple projects. Throughout the training, participants will build a comprehensive collection of components that can be implemented directly or nested within their own custom snippets.
